British citizens, who have been resident in Spain for at least three years prior to the registration period for voting, have the right to vote in the local council elections on Sunday 28th May, 2023.

There have been a number of changes since Brexit, the chief one being that all British Citizens have been removed from the electoral roll. This means that whereas before if you had already voted in previous elections you would automatically be issued with a voting card in subsequent elections, this is no longer the case.

Therefore all British Citizens resident in Spain MUST register BEFORE the 15th January, 2023, if they wish to vote.

The easiest way to do this is to respond to the registration forms that have begun to drop into the letter boxes of those British Citizens that are eligible to vote (better late than never!).

The form provides clear instructions as to how to to do so, either online (See Register to Vote Online), or for those of you who are not confident with this process, the much simpler method of filling out the required fields in the tear off form (your NIE number, Signature, and the date), dampening the edges and sealing to form an envelope which is already addressed and prepaid for return to Oficina del Censo Electoral.
