Passion of Christ in Manilva

Manilva’s Semana Santa programme includes one of its most atmospheric and distinctive events with “La Pasión”, a staged reenactment of the Passion of Christ taking place on 31 March at 7.30 pm.

Rather than being confined to a single setting, the performance unfolds as a route through Manilva Pueblo, with different parts of the story represented scene by scene in locations around the village.

The production is structured as a journey through the final moments of Christ’s life, beginning with the Introduction, the House of Caiaphas and the Last Supper, before moving on to the Mount of Olives and the Agony in the Garden.

From there, the audience follows the encounter with Caiaphas, a sung saeta, the scene of Jesus condemned to death at the House of Pilate, the Road to Calvary, and finally the closing scenes of the Crucifixion, Death and Resurrection.

It is a format that combines faith, theatre and local tradition, turning the streets of Manilva into the setting for one of Holy Week’s most moving public events.
