Young fencers from Club Internacional de Esgrima “AndaluZía” have enjoyed another outstanding weekend of competition, returning from the Criterium Nacional de Esgrima in Segovia with two gold medals and a series of impressive performances.
The national event was held at the Pabellón Internacional SLAM in Segovia and brought together young fencers from across Spain in the under-9 and under-11 age categories. The competition is regarded as the equivalent of the Spanish Championship for these age groups, both individually and by teams.
It proved to be a true celebration of youth sport, with children from all over the country showing not only skill and determination, but also sportsmanship, respect and companionship. For many of the young competitors, it was their first experience of fencing at national level, making the occasion even more special.
Three fencers from Club Internacional de Esgrima “AndaluZía” took part in the event, representing the club with great maturity, discipline and fair play.
In the girls’ under-9 category, León Cerrada Tejera and Chiara Tin Yuet Tjiong both won gold medals, an excellent achievement at national level and a proud moment for the club.
Victoria López Sánchez completed the AndaluZía team in the under-11 category, producing a strong performance and finishing among the top ten fencers in Spain in her age group. Her elegance, commitment and sportsmanship were highlighted as part of another very positive showing for the club.

With these latest results, Club Internacional de Esgrima “AndaluZía” has successfully defended the titles won last year, this time in an even tougher competition marked by a large number of young athletes from across the country.
The achievements in Segovia add to the medals recently obtained at the Andalusian Championships and underline the continued progress of the club, which has now been working to promote and develop fencing for 19 years.
The club paid tribute to the hard work of its fencing masters and instructors Alberto Cerrada, Javier Valdés, Fran Pérez, Jake Blackwell, Scarlet Baren and África Astolfi, whose dedication and training have played a key role in the success of these young fencers.
Club Internacional de Esgrima “AndaluZía” congratulated all the competitors and encouraged them to continue enjoying what it describes as the wonderful art of fencing.
The club will resume activity in El Castillo in September, where they meet on Mondays and Thursdays from 7.30 pm. For more information, contact 639 359 972.
