Preparations are underway for next weekend’s Virgen del Carmen celebrations, organised by the brotherhoods of Castillo and Sabinillas in collaboration with the local council.
Programme of events
Castillo de la Duquesa
Saturday, 15th July
- 11.30 am – Games in the Plaza Miramar
- 1.30 pm – Traditional sardine barbecue (moraga) in El Huerto Park, next to the Castle.
- 6 pm – Dancing to ‘Compas Flamenco’.
- 10.30 pm – Coronation of the Queens and Ladies in El Huerto Park.
- 11 pm – Concert by the group ‘Latidos’.
- 2 pm – Concert by the group ‘Long Play’.
Sunday, 16th July
- 6.30 pm – Holy Mass in honour of the Virgen del Carmen, patron saint of mariners, in the parish church in Castillo.
- 8 pm – Procession, accompanied by the Manilva Town Band, ending with the embarkation of the Virgen in Duquesa Port.
- 10.30 pm – Music and dancing in the El Huerto Park, to the group ‘Latidos’.
Sabinillas
Sunday, 16th July
- 12 noon – Holy Mass in the Plaza Costa del Sol (Fishermen’s Square).
- 1 pm – Coronation of the Queens and Ladies.
- 7 pm – Procession of the Virgen del Carmen to the beach where she will be placed upon one of the fishing boats to be paraded along the Manilva coastline.
- 10 pm – Performance by the group ‘Trenzao’.
- 12 midnight – Concert by the group ‘Compas Flamenco’.
