On Wednesday afternoon in Gaucín, three small earthquakes were recorded, with magnitudes around 2.3 to 2.5. According to the National Geographic Institute, these tremors may be hydrosisms, seismic movements linked to shifting underground water, likely triggered by the heavy rainfall from Storm Leonardo that has kept a red weather alert in the area.
The mayor, Pedro Godino, confirmed the quakes and said there were no injuries or significant damage. Local crews have been dealing with minor incidents such as fallen trees, road cuts and debris, and the nearby Genal River has overflowed in rural areas, affecting some farms. Residents in isolated areas are managing the situation, and normal village activity continues as teams work to clear roads.
