The local government has begun drafting a municipal ordinance aimed at regulating the use of homes for tourist rentals. As part of this process, a public consultation will be held on the town’s website from September 25 to October 25. During this period, residents’ associations, owners of tourist rental properties listed in the regional registry, those interested in registering, and the general public will have the opportunity to share their opinions and offer suggestions.

According to data from the Málaga Territorial Delegation of the Ministry of Tourism and Andalucía Exterior, Manilva currently has 2,394 registered tourist rental properties, offering a total of 12,686 beds.

This situation has led to the strain on public services such as healthcare, policing, parking, and traffic, along with rising living costs, a deterioration in community relations, and a reduced availability of housing for residential use.

Manilva’s Town Council considers it essential to develop a comprehensive strategy to improve public services and minimise the negative impacts caused by the rise of tourist rentals. This requires updating local regulations to align with current tourism laws, revising the General Urban
