Estepona will once again take centre stage in the world of professional cycling as it hosts one of the decisive mountain finishes of the Vuelta Ciclista a España 2026. On 11 September, the peloton will tackle the demanding climb to Peñas Blancas, a summit that has already earned its place in Vuelta history.

The stage, taking place in the crucial final week of the race, is expected to influence the overall standings. Riders will enter Estepona from the Guadalmina area before facing the ascent through the striking landscapes of Sierra Bermeja, offering spectators a dramatic and scenic battle to the finish.

Global Exposure: La Vuelta Broadcast in Over 200 Countries

The event will also give Estepona global visibility, with aerial broadcasts reaching millions of viewers in more than 200 countries. The municipality’s coastline, natural spaces and mountain terrain will once again be showcased on the international stage.

Ahead of the race, the town is preparing activities to involve residents and celebrate the return of La Vuelta. Peñas Blancas last featured as a summit finish in 2013, the first ever held in Málaga province, and its comeback promises another memorable day for fans.

With the race’s return, Estepona strengthens its position as a standout destination for both sport and nature, ready to offer one of the most thrilling moments of the 2026 edition.

Schedule

According to La Vuelta’s official Stage 19 timetable for Friday 11 September, the race is expected to reach Estepona town between approximately 4.20 pm and 4.48 pm, depending on the average speed of the peloton.

The riders are scheduled to take the Estepona/Palacio de Congresos exit from the A-7 at around 4.19–4.47 pm, pass through Estepona itself at 4.20–4.48 pm, then turn towards Avenida de los Reales at roughly 4.28–4.56 pm before beginning the 18.7 km climb to Peñas Blancas. The estimated summit finish is 5.14–5.47 pm.

The publicity caravan is considerably earlier, reaching Estepona at about 3.34 pm.

So for spectators in Estepona, I’d suggest being in position by 3.30–4 pm at the latest, particularly with road closures likely to be in place well before the riders arrive.
