Casares hosted a significant event on Monday, 7th July, in honour of the 140th anniversary of Andalucia’s founding father, Blas Infante. The highlight was the unveiling of the expanded Casa Natal, located at Calle Carrera, 51, which underwent an extensive renovation to restore its original structure and adapt it into a modern, accessible museum.

The ceremony brought together a packed Plaza de España and featured both institutional and popular celebration. It was attended by key figures including Andalucia’s President Juanma Moreno, the regional Parliament, Andalusian Government ministers, Casares Mayor Juan Luis Villalón, and the President of the Blas Infante Foundation, Javier Delmás – grandson of Blas Infante.

The event began with the official opening of the expanded birthplace museum, which was backed by over €700,000 in funding contributed by the Junta de Andalucía, Casares Town Council, and Málaga Provincial Council

President Moreno highlighted the symbolic importance of combining institutional recognition with community participation, underlining Blas Infante’s legacy of equality, solidarity, and pride in Andalusian identity.

The opening remarks culminated with a performance by acclaimed singer Pasión Vega, who sang the Andalusian anthem.

The museum expansion remodelled the exhibition spaces to become a vibrant cultural and educational venue, with doors set to open to the public on 15th July for an ‘open house’ day.
