The incident took place late Tuesday during a Guardia Civil operation in Manilva. One officer sustained serious, but not life-threatening, injuries after allegedly being run over by a vehicle that had been ordered to stop. The driver reversed and hit the officer a second time before fleeing the scene.
Guardia Civil sources confirmed that another officer was also injured, though his injuries were not serious. The events unfolded as officers were attempting to arrest an individual with an outstanding warrant. This person was reportedly seated in the passenger seat of the vehicle.
Once the authorities had intercepted the car, the driver responded by ramming into the two Civil Guard officers. He allegedly ran over one of them a second time by reversing before escaping, triggering a police chase.
Both the driver and the passenger were arrested early Wednesday morning. They face charges of attempted homicide and property damage. The passenger was also taken into custody due to the active warrant against him, according to sources close to the case.
The injured officers were taken to a hospital for medical evaluation. One was treated for minor injuries and discharged. His colleague, a senior officer, remains hospitalized in serious condition. He reportedly suffered a hip fracture, and doctors are conducting further tests to determine if he has additional injuries.
The police unions JUCIL and AUGC have condemned the attack, alleging that the suspects have ties to drug trafficking on the Costa del Sol. They also criticized the lack of resources available to law enforcement and stressed the need to reinforce officers’ authority while formally recognizing the dangers they face in the fight against organized crime.
