Adana at the town hall

Estepona Town Hall has firmly denied false claims circulating about the alleged eviction of the ADANA animal shelter (Association for the Rights of Abandoned Animals). The local government reassures residents that there are no plans to close or relocate the shelter, dismissing the rumours as misinformation spread by political groups and individuals attempting to create unrest in the community—even if it harms an organisation that protects animals.

Mayor José María García Urbano met with ADANA president Susie Brown and long-time volunteer Fernando Amores to clarify the situation. He explained that both the Town Hall and the association have been targeted by misleading and unfounded rumors.

In April 2021, the Town Hall granted ADANA the use of municipal facilities in Los Pedregales, located in Las Cabrerizas, for a period of 75 years. The 11,000-square-metre site remains under ADANA’s control, as agreed, and the association is fully entitled to continue operating there.

The mayor also took the opportunity to thank the organisation for more than 20 years of dedicated work rescuing and caring for abandoned pets, giving them shelter while they await adoption.

Residents interested in adopting a pet are encouraged to visit ADANA’s facilities, where animals are looked after by a team of volunteers.

The Town Hall continues to support ADANA annually through maintenance efforts such as clearing the access road, emptying the septic tank, and maintaining water pumping systems to ensure the smooth operation of the site.
