Young skating talent from Manilva is preparing to take on international competition this weekend as several local athletes head to Girona for the Open Internacional de Cerdanya, taking place on 9 and 10 May in the Pyrenees.
Representing the Manilva Skating Club, four skaters will compete across different levels. Alice Porter (13) and Nicole Kosnikova (8) will skate in Level 4, Martina Flores (12) in Level 3, and María Quirós (14) steps up to compete in the demanding Level 2 Elite category.
The event, held in the scenic region of La Cerdanya, is an established fixture on the international inline artistic skating calendar. Organised under the umbrella of the World Inline Figure Skating Association, it attracts competitors primarily from Spain and France, along with a full international judging panel. The competition is known for offering young skaters valuable exposure to higher-level routines and judging standards.
For the Manilva athletes, the trip marks an important step in their development, providing the chance to test themselves beyond regional and national events. All four skaters train regularly at the Las Viñas sports hall, where sessions take place every Sunday. The club continues to encourage new participants, with doors open to anyone interested in trying the sport.
The Cerdanya Open also forms part of a wider international calendar. Following the event, attention will turn to the Open and World Championships of inline figure skating, scheduled to take place later this year in the Czech Republic, offering a pathway for skaters aiming to progress to the highest level.
Inline artistic skating has been steadily growing in popularity across Spain, combining the technical precision of figure skating with the accessibility of inline skating. For clubs like Manilva’s, events such as this not only showcase local talent but also highlight the strength of grassroots sport along the Costa del Sol.
As the competition approaches, all eyes will be on these young skaters as they represent their town on an international stage.
