Change of programme due to weather forecast
Each year, as spring gives way to summer, the town of Manilva comes alive with the spirit of devotion and community during the popular Romería de Fátima, organised by Manilva’s Culture Department and the Nuestra Señora de los Dolores y Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno brotherhood. This traditional pilgrimage, this year being held on the weekend of 9th and 10th May, is one of the most important events in the local calendar—blending faith, tradition, festivity, and Andalucian charm in a truly memorable way.
The day begins with a solemn mass at the Church of Santa Ana, where locals gather to honour the Virgin of Fátima. From there, the statue of the Virgin is carried in procession to the countryside chapel of San Adolfo, located near the Baños de la Hedionda, Roman baths. This journey isn’t just a religious procession—it’s a festive parade. The roads fill with decorated carts, riders on horseback, flamenco dresses, and families walking together, all accompanied by music and a palpable sense of joy.
Once at the hermitage, the celebration continues with a full weekend of activities. There’s live music, dancing, food shared among friends, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere that invites everyone to take part. Highlights include flamenco performances, communal meals under the trees, and the Sunday romero mass, sung beautifully by the municipal choir.
The Romería de Fátima is more than an event—it’s a living tradition that brings the people of Manilva together in a powerful expression of faith and culture. Whether you’re a visitor or a lifelong resident, taking part in this romería is a beautiful way to experience the heart of the community.
