Recycling point

Manilva residents will soon be able to earn rewards for recycling plastic bottles and drinks cans, thanks to a new initiative launching in November.

The scheme, called Leales al planeta, will introduce five smart recycling machines across the municipality, allowing residents to collect digital credit that can be spent at participating local businesses.

Developed by Manilva Council in collaboration with Lealtad Verde, the project aims to encourage recycling while supporting the local economy.

The machines will be installed at Plaza de la Vendimia, Plaza Vicente Espinel, Calle Bolivia, Plaza Pozo del Rey and Puerto de la Duquesa.

Residents will be able to deposit plastic drinks bottles of up to three litres and drinks cans, earning rewards through the Leales al planeta mobile app. The accumulated credit can then be redeemed at participating shops and businesses.

Similar reward-based recycling schemes are already operating elsewhere in Spain, encouraging people to recycle more by offering something in return.

The new machines will complement Manilva’s existing recycling facilities, giving residents another way to dispose of everyday packaging responsibly.

The scheme is expected to launch during November 2026, with further details about the rewards, participating businesses and how to use the app to be announced shortly.
