Filming in Casares

Casares will once again become a showcase for Andalusian filmmaking when the Festival Nuevo Cine Andaluz returns for its 13th edition from 2 to 10 October 2026.

Dedicated entirely to cinema made in Andalucía, the festival brings together feature films, documentaries and short films, alongside photography, training activities and opportunities for filmmakers and audiences to meet. Screenings and many of the festival activities are centred on the Centro Cultural Blas Infante in Casares Pueblo.

Organisers have received 250 films for consideration this year, all of which must have a strong connection with Andalucía, either through their director, production or filming location, and have been produced or released during 2025 or 2026. Around a third of the submitted films are directed by women.

One of the festival’s most distinctive events actually gets underway before the main programme. The Cortos Exprés competition will challenge filmmakers to shoot, edit and deliver a short film entirely within the municipality of Casares between Friday 25 and Sunday 27 September, with €4,750 in prizes across the general and amateur categories.

The festival also includes its annual photography competition, with 30 selected images forming an exhibition which this year will also be shown at the Casa Natal de Blas Infante. The winning photograph will receive a €1,000 prize.

Now firmly established on the Andalusian cultural calendar, the festival describes itself as the longest-running event devoted exclusively to Andalusian cinema, bringing some of the region’s most interesting independent filmmaking to Casares each autumn.

The XIII Festival Nuevo Cine Andaluz de Casares runs from 2 to 10 October, with the full programme of selected films and screening times still to be announced.
