Estepona will once again celebrate one of its biggest sporting and social events of the year as the 49th edition of the 24 Horas Deportivas takes place on 13th and 14th June across multiple municipal sports venues.
Organised by the Fundación 24 Horas Deportivas with the support of Estepona Town Hall, the event is expected to attract more than 6,500 athletes and around 20,000 spectators over the two-day programme.
This year’s edition will feature around 70 different sports disciplines, combining traditional competitions with several new additions to the programme. Among the highlights are a Flag Football Championship, a rugby exhibition at the San Fernando football ground, an Andalusian Frisbee Tournament and the first-ever “Subida Mítica a Sierra Bermeja”, which already has more than 300 registered participants.
Football continues to be the most popular sport within the event, with football 7 competitions alone involving around 120 teams and more than 150 matches across multiple categories. Some tournaments will begin from Friday due to the large number of participants.
The Plaza del Recinto Ferial will also host a packed programme of exhibitions and performances, including kickboxing, muay thai, rhythmic gymnastics, karate, flamenco and modern dance, body combat, zumba, fit dance, acrobatic dance and fashion shows.
Other activities scheduled throughout the weekend include nautical sports, paddle tennis, judo, basketball, golf, chess, badminton, fishing competitions, karting, speedsoft, beach tennis, volleyball and table tennis, among many others.
The event has become one of Estepona’s most important annual traditions and next year will celebrate its 50th anniversary.
