Local authorities visit the enhanced Marbella desalination plant

The Marbella Desalination Plant has recently undergone significant upgrades to enhance its capacity and efficiency, ensuring a more reliable water supply for the Costa del Sol region. This investment is part of broader efforts to address the ongoing water scarcity and improve sustainability in the area, especially in light of the increasing demands from both residents and tourists.

This project, with a 7-million-euro investment, saw the first phase completed in May, which involved upgrading the plant to boost water production from 6 hm³ to 12 hm³. The second phase, currently in progress, aims to triple the original capacity, reaching 20 hm³, and is expected to be completed by early 2025. This increased desalinated water output will meet 15% to 20% of the Costa del Sol’s water needs, helping to alleviate the effects of drought.
